Company Profile
In 1980, following the eruption of Washington's Mt. St. Helens and the subsequent ashfall in the Pacific Northwest, Bruce Chisholm faced a problem. He needed an efficient tool to clean his clogged gutters, but none existed. Bruce took matters into his own hands, creating a uniquely shaped gutter-cleaning scoop using flexible plastic and a wooden handle. After successful testing, he recognized the entrepreneurial potential and, with the support of friends and family, founded Working Products, Inc. Their signature product, the Gutter Getter, molded from durable yet flexible polypropylene, soon became a market hit, offering an innovative solution for gutter maintenance.
Our long history shows us the importance of adaptation, evolution, and innovation. Our position at the forefront of the industry requires that we continuously innovate. We, therefore, remain tireless in our pursuit and thinking. Our determination drives us to be better than we were the day before. You can get your hands on a wide range of company’s products here at DK Hardware.
First Success
Working Products achieved its initial breakthrough when the national catalog retailer Norm Thompson placed an order, swiftly followed by reorders as the Gutter Getter® gained popularity. The second milestone came when the home center chain Pay-n-Pak ran a newspaper advertisement featuring the Gutter Getter. Today, the Gutter Getter is stocked by most major home centers across the United States. Its reach has extended internationally, with sales in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Finland, France, and Germany. The Gutter Getter retails for approximately $5.99.
6 Million and Counting
With over 6 million patented Gutter Getters sold to date, it's clear that the Gutter Getter has found favor with customers. Chisholm also notes that customers have devised innovative uses for the Gutter Getter beyond just gutter cleaning. It's been repurposed as a pet food scoop, a tool for spreading rock salt, and even as a giant shoehorn in one instance.
Introducing New Products
The latest addition to the Gutter Getter line-up is the Gutter Grabber. This uniquely designed tool screws onto an extendable steel pole, enabling homeowners to clean up to 18 feet of gutter without constantly repositioning their ladder. "Thanks to the adjustable pole, the Gutter Grabber significantly reduces the need to move the ladder," highlights Chisholm.
Working Products, Inc. has its headquarters in Portland, Oregon, and manufactures its product line in Washougal, Washington. Independent sales representatives cater to customers throughout the United States.
