Company Profile
Tarter Gate Company was founded in 1945 by Chrisman Vanwinkle "C.V." After moving his family to Dunnville, KY, he began clearing his land and cutting timber for manufacturing wooden gates. Using only hand tools, the Tarters were able to make 32 wooden gates a week. Chrisman's son, Roger, sold them for $2.50 - $3.00 throughout the Bluegrass area. As the business continued to grow, Roger and his wife Vivian bought the company from his father, and by 1950, they had five men hauling gates into five states.
Tarter Gate Company has state-of-the-art production facilities in two Kentucky communities representing over 1 million square feet of manufacturing space. Also, the company owns a manufacturing and distribution center in Corinne, Utah. The Tarter family continues to value the power of an American family-run business by providing long-lasting, quality products to farmers and ranchers. Continuous Innovation
By the late sixties, Tarter Gate was producing spot welded, steel, and tubular gates, finally installing their tube mill in the early seventies. Roger later gave the company's reins to his two able sons, Donald and David. They took the company ahead and started by including steel gates and farm and ranch equipment. Some of the company’s top products include tube gate, stock tank, and wire filled gate.
Renamed
In 2008, as the company's product line continued to grow, the owners changed its name from Tarter Gate Company to Tarter Farm and Ranch Equipment. In the mid-40s, Roger left to serve his country during WWII. While away, his father took every possible step to keep the company flourishing during the war. Gradually, the company spread out, selling gates all over Kentucky and into Indiana and Ohio.
