CRL RTV408 Silicone is a neutral cure, medium modulus, 100% silicone sealant that cures to a tough, flexible rubber when exposed to moisture. RTV408 features primerless adhesion to: Aluminum, stainless steel, chromium, tin, iron, plastics, rigid PVC, phenolic resin, glass, ceramic, and most reflective-coated glasses.
Basic Uses Its fast cure time and easy tooling make it ideal for many in-house production applications; and it is non-corrosive to most building materials such as glass (including insulating glass), tiles, and sanitary equipment. CRL RTV408 seals curtainwall joints; vinyl, steel and aluminum windows; and skylights. It is also used in vehicles, ships, aircraft, as well as for electrical insulation. CRL RTV408 does not cause corrosion in contact with metals. It is suitable for alkaline materials such as mortar and cement, and other applications where metal corrosion could be a problem. CRL RTV408 stays flexible and is resistant to cracking or becoming brittle in a wide range of temperatures approximately -65° to 400°F (-54° to 204°C). It can be applied at outdoor temperatures as low as -20°F (-29°C), provided that surfaces are clean, dry and frost-free, or on surfaces as high as 100°F (38°C). RTV408W and RTV408T contain a fungicide, and the cured sealant is mildew resistant.
Limitations It is not recommended for concrete and stone expansion joints; horizontal decks, patios, driveway or terrace joints where abrasion or physical abuse is encountered; sealing submerged joints, particularly where porous surfaces permit water infiltration to the bond surface; interior or exterior structural sealing below the waterline in marine applications; structural glazing; food contact or potable water applications. Check cartridge label and Specification Data Sheet for additional limitations.

Qualifies for LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System® credit.
Product Warning:Not recommended for concrete and stone expansion joints; horizontal decks, patios, driveway or terrace joints where abrasion or physical abuse is encountered; sealing submerged joints, particularly where porous surfaces permit water infiltration to the bond surface; interior or exterior structural sealing below the waterline in marine applications; structural glazing; food contact or potable water applications. RTV408 cannot be painted as painting over silicone sealant is generally not successful. Paint film does not stretch with extension of the sealant, and adhesion of paint to the sealant is not adequate. Extensive material testing has shown that the following substrates must be tested for good adhesion, and that a primer may be required: plastics, flexible PVC, acrylic resin, natural stone, concrete and wood. Check label and Specification Data Sheet for additional limitations.
