Company Profile

Our journey to Engineering Tomorrow began on September 1, 1933, when Mads Clausen founded Danfoss in his parent's farmhouse in Nordborg, Denmark. Since then, the business has grown from a solo enterprise into one of the world's leading innovative and energy-efficient solutions suppliers. Since Mads Clausen's very first inventions, passion for innovative customer solutions has been ingrained at Danfoss. From the thermostatic expansion valve for refrigeration systems to one of the world's first radiator thermostats for regulating heating to the world's first mass-produced frequency converters, all the way to today's telematics used for precision farming.

The creator of Danfoss, Mads Clausen, built a global company from a single valve and his unrelenting thirst for success. His company still sets the bar for innovation today. The company announced an ambitious goal in February 2020 to achieve carbon neutrality in all of the company's global operations by 2030. In addition, Danfoss declared its intention to have 30% of women in senior roles by 2025. In August 2021, Danfoss completed the acquisition of Eaton Hydraulics, expanding the Danfoss Group by 30% to a revenue of more than EUR 7 billion. Due to its acquisition, Danfoss Power Solutions now leads the world in mobile and industrial hydraulics. You can find a range of products from Danfoss hereat DK Hardware.

Company is Formed

In the 1930s, one man's passion sparked global innovation. Mads Clausen sets up his own company, "Dansk Køleautomatik og Apparatfabrik" in 1933. He introduced the world to the first thermostatic expansion valves - thermostats, water valves, pressure switches, filter driers, and more. In 1941, the company's exports exceeded 30 percent, and the company was renamed Danfoss in 1946. The company then introduced a thermostat, prototyped as one of the first in the world. In 1949, Danfoss set up the first sales company in Argentina.

Optimizing Production

In the 1950s, Danfoss focused its attention on optimizing production and forging a global network. In the first year of production, the company sold 5000 Danfoss compressors, which was around 10 percent of the company's sales turnover. Danfoss reaches an early digital milestone when it gets its punch-card department.

Energy Efficiency in Focus

The 1970s was the time when Danfoss focused its attention on energy efficiency. The company set up a test field for hydraulics in Nordborg, and the company's first electron-scanning microscope is put to use. The hydraulic motor ORT wins the 'IF 75' Design Award. In 1974, the company launched oil pre-heaters, VLT® frequency converters controlling Audi's transfer lines. The company put Computer-aided design (CAD) into use in 1982, and in 1986 electronics represented 10% of sales. Danfoss opened its wastewater neutralization plant in Nordborg in 1985; later, the company won the `Excellent Environment Administration award.

Expansion

By 2000, Danfoss Fluid Power had merged with Sauer Inc. to become Sauer-Danfoss Inc. It starts production starts in India and Brazil. The company joined the UN Global Compact and acquired several heating technology companies, including Thermia, DEVI, and LPM. AURELIUS AG buys Danfoss Household Compressors. In 2013, Danfoss Turbocor® Compressors and Sauer-Danfoss became 100% owned by Danfoss. Looking to strengthen the core business, Danfoss acquired Sondex®, Vacon®, White Drive products, Hydraulik Nord Fluidtechnik, Artemis Intelligent Power Ltd, and AAIM controls. Danfoss acquires Visedo, UQM Technologies, and Axco motors to build on the leading position in electrification.

Key Innovations

In 2012, Danfoss was the first to integrate variable-speed technology into commercial air-conditioning. Danfoss Link™ innovative heating is introduced. In 2014 alone, 213 new patents were granted. In 2019 Danfoss established an IoT collaboration with Microsoft to bring domain expertise in Refrigeration and HVAC to the cloud. As of January 2021, the Cooling and Heating segment join forces into one strong segment; Danfoss Climate Solutions.
