Apple’s Project Titan Joins The Race To Self-Driving Cars
You may have to wait longer than expected until you can pair your iPhone with an iCar. Apple has decided to prioritize the development of a self-driving software system over Project Titan’s previous project, the building of a fully electric vehicle.
It is believed that the former head of Blackberry’s automotive software division, Dan Dodge, joined Apple in early 2016 and suggested the change in priorities. Dodge and Apple’s former chief of hardware, Bob Mansfield, will now be in charge of Project Titan.
The change in plans apparently arose from the iCar’s release date being pushed back from 2019 to 2021. With most of Apple’s engineers working on the iCar, it was necessary to change the direction of Project Titan in order to keep the engineers engaged and away from established car manufacturers.
Apple has remained extremely quiet and has refused to comment on the development of the self-driving system.
What do you think Apple should prioritize, a fully electric vehicle or a self-driving system? Let us know in a comment below.
