How to clean Transaction and Security Windows
As a best practice, businesses that use transaction and/or security windows need to clean their windows twice a month. As they tend to accumulate dirt and grime quite soon, a frequent cleaning schedule can prevent the dirt from turning into stubborn stains. Obviously, there is also a health risk associated with dirty windows. They can trap common allergens, which may my trigger wheezing, asthma attacks or respiratory problems in some individuals. As part of professional upkeep, if windows are not maintained properly, they can reflect poorly on your business.
To the big question 'what is the best way to clean transaction and security windows', the answer is quite simple. Start by using the right cleaning agents that get the job done without damaging the coating or glass. Some compatible cleaning agents are:
- Solutions with soap or detergent and water (this is the simplest way to clean windows)
- Joy
- Windex
- Fantastik
- Top Job
- Mr Clean
- Formula 409
Recommended cleaning procedure
- You may not need a strip applicator or a squeegee to clean a transaction or security window; a sponge or soft cloth will do just fine. Dip it in a mild solution of soap or detergent and lukewarm water. Lukewarm water has faster moving molecules than cold water, which do a better job of displacing dirt and rubbing them away.
- Wash the unit gently to loosen the dirt. As you are using lukewarm water, you won't have to rub too hard to remove oily spots or fingerprints.
- Rinse the unit properly with clear water. To prevent water spotting, thoroughly dry with a chamois or cellular sponge. A chamois cloth works really well when the windows are dusty but not dirty. It makes sense to keep one within arm's length to quickly clean away dust particles once or twice a day.
Note that a chamois itself should not be cleaned in a washing machine as harsh chemicals can strip it off its oils while drying it out in the sun will affect its softness and absorbency. Instead, soak the chamois in some warm water and soap, rinse it until its clean, and dry in a warm place away from sunlight. - Avoid abrasive cleaners and cleaning equipment that can tarnish the material.
Follow the same cleaning procedure for other transaction and security hardware.
